In order to investigate the cell-mediated and humoral immune response, extract of Cyhanchi Radix, extract of Polygonati falcati Rhizoma and extract of Cynanchi RadixPolygonadi falcati Rhizoma were administered orally for 14 days. These ex-tracts treated mice and control mice were challenged with sheep red blood cells (SRBC) by intradermal injection on day 4 after sensitization with 108 SRBC by intravenous injection.
On day 5, such immune responses as delayed-type hypersensitivity, rosette forming cells with SRBC, hemagglutinin titers and hemolysin titers were measured.
The results were measured:
1. Delayed-type hypersensitivity of Cynanchi Radix and Cynanchi Radix-Polygonati falcati Rhizoma-treated mice was increased than those of control mice.
2. Rosette spleen cells of Cynanchi Radix, Polygonati falcati Rhizoma and Cynanchi Radix-Polygonati falcati Rhizomatreated mice were increased than those of control mice.
3. Hemagglutinin titers were increased in Cynanchi Radix - Polygonati falcati Rhizorna-treated mice when compared with the control mice.
4. Hemolysin titers were increased in Cynanchi Radix, Polygonati falcati Rhizoma and Cynanchi Radix-Polygonati falcati Rhizoma-treated mice when compared with the control mice.
These findings suggest that Cynanchi Radix, Polygonati falcati Rhizoma and Cynanchi Radix¢¥Polygoanti falcati Rhizoma enhance cell mediated and humoral immune response.
